Bolling was established July 1, 1918, and named in honor of Col. Raynal C. Bolling whom was killed in World War I. The land was then scouted by William C. Ockerand and Brig. Gen. William "Billy" Mitchell to be the only air field in the nation's capital. (U.S Air Force photo by Senior Airman Alexandre Montes)
