Airmen from the 11th Operations Group and many others from the 11th Wing welcomed the operations group's new commander during a change-of-command ceremony July 6 at the Ceremonial Lawn on Bolling Air Force Base, D.C.

Col. Jeffery R. Swegel takes the reins from Col. Elizabeth Borelli. Colonel Jon A. Roop served as the presiding official for the event.

Colonel Swegel comes to Bolling from the Pentagon where he served as the deputy director of Sensitive Activates since 2006.

During Colonel Swegel's 23 year career he has acquired four masters degrees, logged 3,400 flying hours and been the recipient of the prestigious Mackay trophy.

Previous recipients of the trophy include Air Force legends such as Happ Arnold, Eddie Rickenbacker and Jimmy Doolittle.

"I promise to give you my full dedication and support," said Colonel Swegel during his remarks. "Just as you have given me your dedication and support already."

"Give Colonel Swegel what you gave Colonel Borelli; your hard work, loyalty, discipline and respect. Trust your leadership and the operations group will continue to perform brilliantly," said Colonel Roop.

Colonel Borelli will take command at the 45th Weather Squadron at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. After two years as the commander of the 11th OG.
