Lieutenant Colonel PETER E. MASK

Lieutenant Colonel Peter E. Mask is the Commander of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. He is responsible for leading 285 Airmen in more than 3,500 Department of the Air Force and joint service ceremonies performed annually for the President, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Chief of Space Operations, and other dignitaries worldwide. He ensures the Air Force complies with the congressional mandate to provide Air Force and Space Force veterans with appropriate military honors at Arlington National Cemetery and other cemeteries in the surrounding five-state region. He is also responsible for the policies, training, and performance standards of more than 225 Air Force and Space Force base honor guard units worldwide.


Lieutenant Colonel Mask earned his commission in 2003 as a part of the University of Alabama's AFROTC program. He has served for over 18 years in a variety of duties and career fields as a Program Manager, Deputy Division Chief, Flight Commander, Assistant Director of Operations, White House Social Aide, Chief, J4 Budget and Programs for the Army in Iraq, Chief, Director’s Action Group, Flight Commander/Instructor, Director of Support for Officer Training School, Deputy Chief of Field Training for Headquarters AFROTC and Aide-de-Camp for the President and Commander of Air University. In the Air Force Reserve, he served as a Logistics Readiness Officer for the 25th Aerial Port Squadron, 908th Airlift Wing, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama and as Chief, High-level Congressional Inquiries, Policy Integration, Headquarters Air Force Reserve, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., and dual-hatted as the Section Commander for the 320th Air Expeditionary Wing and Headquarters, Air Force District of Washington, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.
